Ἀριθμὸς ἄρτιος:ἄρτιος σημαίνει “ὁ ἀραρὼς πρός τι” ὁ ἐζευγμένος μὲ κάποιον ἄλλον, ὁ ζυγός.
Ἀριθμὸς περιττὸς ἤ περισσός: ὁ μὴ ἄρτιος. Κάτι περισσεύει, δὲν ἀραρίσκεται, δὲν ἔχει πρὸς ποῖον νὰ συνδεθῆ, παραμένει “περίσσιος”.
Ἀκέραιος ἀριθμός: ἐκ τοῦ ἀ- στερητικοῦ + κείρω (κόπτω).
Κλασματικὸς ἀριθμός: ἐκ τοῦ κλάω (σπάω)
Ἥμισυς (μισὸς): ἐκ τοῦ ἅμα + ἴσος τινὶ; τοῦ ὅλου διαιρεθέντος, ἤ τὸ ἅμα ἄλλῳ ἴσον. “Ἥμισυς γέγονε παρὰ τὸ ἅμα +ἴσος=ἀμάισος καὶ δι’ εὐφωνίαν ἥμισυς.
Μετρῶ: Διὰ νὰ δύναται κάποιος νὰ μετρᾶ καὶ νὰ λογαριάζη, πρέπει νὰ διαθέτη μῆτιν (σύνεσιν), γνῶσιν, σοφίαν. Ὅθεν: μῆτις+ῥέω=μητρῶ – μετρῶ.
Σημ.: Τὸ ἀραρίσκω προέρχεται (μὲ ἀναδιπλασιασμό) ἀπὸ τὸ ἄρω, ἀπὸ ὅπου προέρχονται καὶ τὸ ἄρθρον, ἁρμόζω, ἄρτι. ἄρτιος, ἀρτύω, ἁρμός καὶ ἁρμονία. Ἐπίσης ἀρθμός=δεσμὀς, σύνδεσμος καὶ ἄρθμιος = ἡνωμένος.
Τὸ ἴθμα ἐκ τοῦ ρήματος εἶμι (ἔρχομαι). Προστακτική:ἴθι, ἴτω. ἴτε, ἰόντων.
